The Tale of Peter Rabbit first appeared in a picture letter written in 1893 by Beatrix Potter for a young family friend and it was published in a book in 1902 by Frederick Warne. Twenty-two other beautifully illustrated books followed, introducing a host of unforgettable characters all drawn from real animals.
